Sneezing, a runny or stuff nose, itchy eyes, headache? Sound familiar to you? With the recent spate of spring weather and wind hay fever season is well and truly upon us!!
I am certainly surrounded by people suffering, it’s hitting them hard this year. I’ve made up a number of blends for people so thought that I would share my natural alternative for you!
Essential oils have been our go-to for over five years now. Did you know that when you inhale an essential oil aroma the chemical constituents travel up the olfactory system via the nasal cavity and into the limbic part of the brain. Likewise if we have the beginnings of a cold I will rub our feet with oregano oil as the soles of our feet are some the largest pored on our body and the benefits of the Oregano are able to quickly pass through layers of skin and release their benefits more efficiently! A bit woo woo for you? It works.
The key essential oils we choose to use when it comes to help ease the symptoms of hay fever are traditionally used for their calming and decongestive properties which can soothe allergic responses.
- Lavender is a must for your household. It may help soothe your symptoms during allergy season thanks to its ability to calm and reduce inflammation.
- Lemon is an uplifting oil and can boost energy and help you feel alert. It can also help clear your sinuses and reduce congestion, common symptoms of seasonal allergies.
- Peppermint is known for its cooling properties. It reduces the urge to sneeze. Its antispasmodic action relieves blocked nose and manages systemic inflammation.
You can add 1 drop of each to your palm and inhale; add 1-2 drops of each to your diffuser (drops depending on size of diffuser) or you can add 5-8 drops of each to a roller bottle with a carrier oil and apply to back of your neck, temples, wrists or just generally inhale!!!
Let me know how you go!
